Racing Games: My Secret Favourite Genre | aka I Can't Stop Playing Forza Horizon 5
Every E3, or increasingly every Game Awards or generic publisher-focused showcase, something fascinating happens. Microsoft will show a gorgeous landscape that suddenly gets sports cars driving over it, or Sony will start playing jazz over a shot of some stripey curb as a Forza or Gran Turismo takes centre stage. At this point, the audience on Twitter or in the livestream collectively groans and goes to take a toilet break.
Racing games, who even cares?
A lot of people, in fact, including me. So today, in honour of the release of Gran Turismo 7, I look back over the racing games I've enjoyed the most and examine what makes the genre so appealing.
