Defenders of common descent and an old earth frequently appeal to radiometric dating as evidence for their position. Dating methods are flawed. They comprise many erroneous assumptions. The methods require fallacious reasoning. Scientists can date newly formed rocks and get wrong dates. Therefore, why should we believe the dates derived from rocks of unknown age? The rocks we see form today give wrong dates. But we are supposed to believe rocks we didn't see form give accurate dates? There are major obvious flaws in this reasoning.
The response to the inflated dates derived from newly formed rocks is "you can't date newly formed rocks because they'll give inflated ages". This is fallacious reasoning. Apologists of an old earth want to assume an old earth when subjecting rocks to radiometric dating methods. They'll claim we can't date newly formed rocks because we have to wait thousands of years first. This claim assumes the earth is older than 6000 years. The fact that we frequently get wrong dates for rocks that were just formed tells us that we shouldn't trust dates offered for rocks that were not observed to form. The inconsistencies in radiometric dating strongly suggests the earth and the universe were created just thousands of years ago.
