Rags to Riches was designed and developed by Bob Keener. The game was published by Melody Hall Publishing Corporation and released in 1985. The object of the game is to start with nothing on the streets and earn $1,000,000. In order to go from Rags to Riches, you must stay alive and earn money until you have enough for a $4 haircut. When you have a haircut you can get jobs, unless you have alcohol in your system. Your beard grows back every 4 days and must get it cut to maintain jobs. When the police walk by and you have a beard you can be thrown in Jail into the south part of town. However, sometimes you can duck into a door, or the game glitches; which it also did on the actual commodore 64. As well as the music glitching and few others but I digress. Avoid the robbers they will steal your dollar bills and can hinder you at adverse times to stay alive. If your rest food runs out or you have no alcohol in your system you will die. As you progress, you earn enough money to rent an apartment in the West side of town. You can travel on the subway it's $2 per ticket. There is one apartment for $10 per week, and one for $20 per week in the west. There is also one in the North for $40 a week, and 2 hotel's in the south for $2 per night, and a campus in the east for $2 per night. It can be tough to survive after 8pm if you don't have a place to stay, or enough energy to make it thru the night.The City is broken down into 4 area's. South being the low end of town, West is middle working class, East is schooling and education, North is high end part of town with big jobs. When you are balancing your first job's and have a place to stay, you can travel to the east and begin to get your high school education; its free. When you have attended 3 times, you can work at the factory in the north and earn $100 per day. Beware in the East and North as well as cops and robbers, there is I.R.S. and will steal your bank roll. Its a constant struggle out there. You can grind jobs in the west, or work at the factory until you have enough to attend college. It's $100 per day to attend, and you have to attend 3 times to earn your degree. Now you can finally work at the executive towers in the North and earn $5000 per day. You can invest $10,000 at a time in Mutual Fund Unlimited next door to the executive towers and earn daily from it. When you finally invest enough the counter will just roll over and loose track. Yet daily replenishing a large number which you can continue to invest or let it roll over. I decided to get drunk and thrown in jail a millionaire at the end of this game, lol.
