The purple Plasma Lock-On beam is such a weak scrappy weapon in Raiden II/DX. It's extremely challenging to go the whole game using only that weapon. Coupled with the weaker Homing Missiles, all the bosses take 5 to 10 times longer to kill than with the commonly-used Red and Blue weapons.

This is not a one-credit clear (1CC), and there are a few times I accidentally switched to or was forced to use a different weapon, such as after I die and I drop a Full (P) icon.

Also since just about every Raiden DX Charlie mission playthrough I see speed-kills the Stage 9 boss before it can let out a single attack, with the weak firepower of Plasma + Homing, you will get to see that boss's attack patterns as I fight it in this video.
