The Vietnamese Rainbow Millipede (Tonkinbolus dolfusi) is a beautiful species found in Vietnam and parts of south eastern Asia.
There's not much information on their care or aspects of life in the wild, but alas there's enough to share the top three things to consider about their husbandry.
Firstly, substrate is key! Like most invertebrates, substrate is really important, as the rainbow millipede spends a lot of time in it! Substrate should include rotting wood, leaf litter and calcium. Not all leaf litter and wood is appropriate, pine is NOT suitable (in fact it's poisonous). Make sure the depth of your enclosure is deep enough for them to burrow too!
Secondly, I found in my research that this species doesn't do well with fluctuating temperatures. Keep it stable between 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit.
Third, mimic their natural rain forest habitat by keeping it humid for them! About 90% seems to be what they prefer.
In addition to leaf litter and rotting wood, we will be supplementing their diet with various fruits and vegetables to see what they may take preference too. Changing these out every two days to prevent mould.
