Ralf's Adventure: Aztec Mystery Playthrough (Startropics/Legend of Zelda Game)
17Playing through Ralf's Adventure, a game that's basically a mix of Startropics and The Legend of Zelda for the NES (minus any overworld exploration or dialogue). Your mother falls down a pit and the only way to save her is to use your baseball bat to defeat bosses for ancient Aztec treasures like a baseball and yo-yo to kill a death god.
If you fondly remember either of those games this one might be worth trying. However, the $15 price tag is a bit much for this. There's also some bugs, including a serious bug where dying in the second phase of the final boss will ruin your save file (I recommend copying your save file to have a backup). There's also some annoying design choices like putting the first bat and shirt upgrades in dungeons requiring items from the next dungeon to obtain (which is why I go for the shovel immediately after getting the rope). As well, finishing the game awards a code to name your file to unlock a new mode and there's a number of extra modes that require finishing the game with them (fortunately most of them can be done by renaming an endgame file and beating the final boss). Easy mode, for instance, unlocks after beating Time Attack mode (which is unlocked after your first playthrough) when you really don't need an easy mode at that point.
So while I had fun with the game due to nostalgia I am very hesitant to recommend it.
Having this record properly was quite difficult (some stuttering still exists) and required breaking it into parts. The run itself could be improved speed-wise with better routing, dodging, and save/quitting, but I'm overall happy with it and I've beaten all the modes anyhow.
