RALLY to PROTECT PUBLIC GREENSPACE at 440 Hunt Club Rd
This letter sent to the transport minister explains it all:
(TO:)
The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, M.P.
Minister of Transport
The past several years have seen disputes over the environmental impacts of airport authorities
developing greenspace. Most notably, many people have been greatly concerned about the
destruction of environmentally significant areas in the vicinity of Montreal and Ottawa's
airports.
Larger Canadian airports operate under federal mandates that permit the development of
greenspace, however in many cases these mandates are decades old and no longer reflect the
government's stated environmental values and commitments.
Allowing federally regulated airport authorities to irreversibly develop vital greenspace such as
forests and wetlands has an impact on ecosystems, species and the quality of life enjoyed by
local residents. Therefore, I encourage Transport Canada to put in place a moratorium on the
development of ecologically significant greenspaces under federal airport authorities'
jurisdiction until a complete review of airport mandates can be completed.
I look forward to your timely response.
Sincerely,
Taylor Bachrach
