On the market, there are thousands of mechanical keyboards, good, excellent. And after, then there are the custom. These are characterized by construction quality, materials used and design.
Now there is a new custom mechanical keyboard and it is entirely made of ABS.
This, is KARA, the new creation of Rama Works.
For Rama Works it isn't the first product that creates and distributes, but only the latest in a long list of excellent products.
KARA is a 60 percent keyboard available for pre-order from today at price of $ 160 (US dollar).
In the box we will find one Top Enclosure, one Base Enclosure, one Backplate, one MUTE, one Plate, one Custom Moulded Foot (Silicone – Black), the KARA PCB, one Switchpuller, one USB-C to USB-A cable, and the screws for assembly.
The keyboard weight varies according to the combinations chosen.
Starts from 680 gram for the base version, 800 gram with Internal Dampener, 1,510 gram with Internal Weight.
In according with Rama Works, the ABS was chosen for the flexible properties and minimal warping. This allows a better assembly experience.
The more rigid material properties of the PC plate specifically accompanies the MUTE mount, providing a dynamic yet stable typing experience.
The keyboard consist of four separate parts: the main chassis, the switch-plate, the backplate and the base.
Started from exterior, all plastic frame are available in two variants translucent and opaque, in many colorway ICED, MOON, NOCT, SOYA, AZUR, AZED.
The keyboard uses the same PCB design by Wilba as the Rama Works M60-A , but in a new white colourway.
KARA features USB-C, RGB lighting and real-time programming with VIA.
The KARA PCB features a hotswap PCB that requires no soldering to construct with any Cherry MX-compatible switches (Cherry, Outemu, Zealio Gateron, Kailh, Razer, Greetech).
The keyboard is compatible with the Internal Weight and Dampener, a moulded silicone insert which absorbs the sound inside the keyboard for an adjusted acoustic signature.
Kara utilize new MUTE mounting system, with which evenly distribute the RGB lighting throughout the plate and switches.
The colour, brightness and animation can all be adjusted with VIA, our GUI configurator runable on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
Furthermore, Kara is compatible with new KATE profile doubleshot keycaps, designed with five unique row profiles for optimal ergonomics.
These will be available early next year.
In conclusion, KARA is unique.
With its low starting price, it is halfway between the mass-produced mechanical keyboards of famous brands and those of the custom world of mechanical keyboards - in which many times to have only the frame you get to shell out double or more high prices compared to the system offered by KARA.
Of course, being entirely made of plastic may not appeal to everyone, but KARA seems to be very solid like an aluminum frame.
Finally, represents an opportunity for all those who are entering the world of custom keyboards for the first time, with a unique great keyboard.
