WWE Night of Champions 2012: Breaking Down Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler
DONALD WOOD
SEPTEMBER 11, 2012
With Night of Champions on Sunday, and the go-home edition of Raw out of the way, the build to what has obviously become a throwaway pay-per-view for the WWE has been abysmal.
One match that is garnering a lot of attention is the battle between Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton, but it has nothing to do with a storyline that WWE produced.
The smart wrestling fans love Ziggler, and the outcome of this match will be very telling on how the company feels about both participants.
Both men need the win in different ways, but there is only one correct outcome of this match. The feeling around wrestling is that WWE may screw it up, though.
Why Dolph Ziggler Needs the Win
Along with the Money in the Bank briefcase and the world title shot it guarantees, Dolph Ziggler also has the casual fans starting to care about his heel character.
This feud with Randy Orton has done nothing but keep the mainstream notoriety climbing, but it must ultimately culminate with RKO putting the star over at Night of Champions.
That’s how you build young talent.
If Ziggler can beat Orton clean in a one-on-one match at Night of Champions, he will walk away looking like a viable threat in the world title scene.
Why Randy Orton Needs the Win
After serving a 60-day suspension for violating the company’s wellness policy, Randy Orton has returned to the company as over as ever before. With a big win over Ziggler, RKO would be back on his way to the world title chase.
Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus’ battle for the title has been boring to say the least, and an infusion of Orton would be a change of pace that most fans could get behind. Unfortunately, that push to the top would have to come at the expense of Ziggler.
The WWE is a business first and foremost, and Randy Orton makes money. The man needs to be around the main events as often as possible no matter how close to striking out in the wellness policy he is.
Jeff Hardy got a push on two strikes, why can’t Randy Orton?
