The penultimate episode of M*A*S*H was titled “As Time Goes By”, and it revolved around the plot of Margaret creating a time capsule for the 4077th. The burial of the time capsule served as the episode’s ending, and it was also the last scene of the show that was ever filmed. It was an incredible moment due to the fact that the cast and crew knew they would never all be together again. In addition, the cast and crew were also burying a real-life time capsule of their very own that they had filled with props and costumes.

While the filming of the final scene was a very personal moment for the cast and crew, there were also nearly 300 journalists said to be present at the occasion. The presence of these encroaching journalists made it hard for the cast and crew of M*A*S*H to appreciate the gravity of the moment, but it still managed to be something incredibly special. Apparently, there was so much crying going on amongst the cast and crew that the director actually had to make them stop.
