Raspberry Pi Pico: Checking Current draw: How to extend battery life for LEDs
Received a Comment from a viewer (@HiLight7777 ) asking about the current output from the Raspberry Pi Pico (rp2040).
the concern from the commenter was that the rp2040 would have an issue with the output to the 74HC595s. so I decided to check to see what it was. while i was at it i figured it was a good time to increase the resistance for the current limiting resistors. I had hoped to have the wire wrapped prototype board completed, but that has not happened (yet).
In this video, we will show you how to reduce current draw and extend battery life for LED modules. We received a comment asking about the current draw of multiple registers, but we discovered that the bigger problem was too much current draw on the LED modules themselves. We walk you through the steps of checking the current draw, adding a current limiting resistor, and adjusting the resistance to optimize the current draw. By the end of the video, you will know how to extend the battery life of your LED modules and improve their performance.
also in a future video i will try to figure out how it was functioning with the ground wire removed. I assume there was current being sunk via one (or more) of the control lines.
