Raw Recruit - Commodore 64 - longplay [real hardware]
Anyone aiming to prove himself a soldier must prove his physical ability, reactions, stamina and sheer courage. As the Raw Recruit of the title, six events make up this challenge. To qualify you must complete all six events, but you can continue the game to rack up as good a score as possible even if you fail to complete one.
Many many many many many thanks to minotaurus, the C64 superhero :D
As usual he wrote some notes about this game, let's see:
"First event takes place on a shooting range, with the requirement to hit 16 targets to qualify; the next is a cross-country and assault event, involving running and jumping over obstacles. Fitness challenges follow, including push-ups and pull-ups to test the strength and endurance of the potential recruits. Finally we have another "Pistol Range" similar to the first but with a city setting and a final test, the tug of war challenge."
The game can be played in single player (joystick in port 1) or in 2 player mode simultaneously.
In single player we don't have the CPU playing against us during the various shooting sessions (if you play with a friend you play togheter, which is why there are so many targets to hit).
Even in the last challenge (Tug of War) CPU efforts are minimal and can be beaten easily.
So the real challenge seems to be playing against another human, since only one of you two will gain access to the military academy.
Title screen soundtrack is from composer Tim Follin (18 years old at that time), also famous for having created score for Bionic Commando, LED Storm and Ghouls'n Ghost C64 ports.
The game is based on titles such as Combat School and Track & Field, so it can be defined as a "joystick smasher", since you have to alternate left and right directions as quickly as possible to make your character run.
Overall, as said before, this title is not difficult, except for the 2nd and especially the third test, which are quite a pain for your arms (your REAL arms :D) and a breaking risk for your yoystick 😅.
Played and recorded by minotaurus, as part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
