Rawhead Rex – Malevolent and Feral Monster by Clive Barker Explored in Great Detail
We all know Clive Barker achieved popularity, reached a wide audience, and built a huge fanbase through his anthology series, which kickstarted his career as a successful novelist. We are particularly referring to his Books of Blood series, released from the mid-80s, and it would be a serious crime if we overlooked Barker’s, Rawhead Rex. If Clive Barker is regarded as the master of dark, psychological suspense and dread then this malevolent and feral monster created by the horror icon is undoubtedly one of his classics.
Meet Rawhead Rex, the definitive symbol for barbaric, primal, virile power. He is described as a nine-foot-tall walking phallus, boasting a huge head that looks a lot like raw meat and a large mouth with exceedingly sharp teeth.
Residing in the quaint English village called Zeal, this ancient, bloodthirsty, flesh-eating demon is notoriously famous for devouring children and violating women, even impregnating them. No one is in any doubt that this beast is absolutely vicious; but, like every other monster, there are things that even he is scared of. Rawhead Rex does not enjoy the sight of pregnant women, in fact, he is also afraid of women on their periods. Other than that, there is no stopping this living personification of the male sex drive, one who literally terrorized the entire village. So, it should not come as a surprise when we tell you that his antics led him to get buried alive by the townspeople, where he remained for centuries.
But as fate would have had it, this demon eventually got free from his captivity in due course, and we have the ignorant, unfortunate farmer, Thomas Garrow to hold accountable for this. Garrow, who had been blessed with a three-acre field as inheritance was initially quite baffled to see the land left uncultivated. Therefore, he made up his mind to plough the field to prepare for the new crop and, whilst he was at it, he came across a massive stone block, one that was buried deep within. Garrow knew that he had to dig out the slab so that no hindrance stood in the way of his ploughing, and he got to working only to realize what a horrendous blunder he had made. The beast has woken once again and within seconds the rancorous fangs of the monster simply ripped through the farmer, wiping him out in a single bite.
