Reader Rabbit's Reading Development Library 3 is a video game released by The Learning Company in 1995 for Windows 3.x. It is the third of the Development Library series. It was re-released in 1997 for Windows 95 and Macintosh. The game consists of two stories, which can be narrated by Sam the Lion or by two different characters from the story. There are also additional activities which include a list of key words, writing letters to the story characters, matching words and pictures and putting the story in order.
The first story is "The Princess and the Pea" which includes the titular Princess Laurel, the King, the Queen, Prince Albert and his pet frog. When narrated by Princess Laurel, she is sympathetic to Prince Albert's loneliness and surprised about the test she has to undertake. When narrated by Prince Albert, he desires to marry a real princess and warms up to Princess Laurel, then hopes she passes her mother's odd Princess Test.
The second story is "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg" which includes the titular Goose, the Farmer and his wife. When narrated by the Goose, she reveals how much laying a golden egg hurts her tummy. She feels taken for granted when the Farmer grows greedy. She is horrified when the farmer almost decides to axe her and she moves away. When narrated by the Farmer, he is excited at the prospect of extra money from golden eggs. He almost axes her, then feels ashamed about it and renews his hard work and care of the animals at his farm.
