The wizard Lakmir has been entering our dreams, compelling us to travel to the Gatekeeper mountain, seek the castle Shadowgate, and defeat the evil within. Armed (woefully) with only a dirk, a torch, and our courage - we arrive at the castle...
Shadowgate - a game that started out as a macventure title, and has been ported to many consoles since. I first experienced it as a child on the NES. More accurately, I watched my parents play it and got nightmares from the game over screen. However, when I heard that Zojoi was going to be re-creating the game in 2013, I couldn't stop myself from picking it up because over the intervening years since my childhood, it became an adventure game that I came back to over, and over, and over again. It has a reputation for being less than kind to the unwary. Despite creating many childhood nightmares and forcing me to wake my parents from peaceful slumber (sorry Mom and Dad), I grew to love the game. Unfortunately, due to some technical happenings which you can read about on the community tab or hear about in the Mid-August 2024 update video, my saves for my previous run disappeared into the aether.
