Ready Set Indie Games Live Streams: A Long Way Down (PC) Part 2
In this Live Stream from Ready Set Indie Games, TripG87 plays A Long Way Down on PC.
A Long Way Down is a rogue-lite dungeon creator card game all rolled into one. You play as Sam, a mixed-race man who has been tossed into limbo. Sam must go against the dungeon master and complete tasks to escape the dungeon which is done by equipping armor as well as using cards to attack your enemies. Another cool feature is that along the way you do get to find others to help you in your dungeon crawl.
The gameplay for the game is completely phenomenal and the art style is also really well. I love the concept of being able to create the board as you go along, and even the dungeon master using slabs to throw you off or mess up your run.
However, there are some racial things in the game that was a bit unsettling and I can see that becoming an issue with some people without the proper context or at least a warning saying that the game does contain some racial suggestive themes when it comes to the dialogue.
Unless the game timing is supposed to be based in that time era. I didn't see the need for that particular type of dialogue. You can also skip through the story but for those who want to read the story, I feel that a warning could better prepare them for the content. Again, the game and gameplay are good. I feel that the story without the context or warning will be the undoing of the game itself.
Also, I would love to see a free play mode added for those who don't want to engage in the story.
