2While mucking around with Cheat Engine, I managed to spot this thing. It swims in circles around the load zone containing the Myst book. Unfortunately, if you clip out of that zone even an inch, the game thinks you've left the room and unloads it all (including our mini-shroomie friend.) This is the best shot I got, which I was able to get by opening the door and staying right beside it, forcing the zone to stay open.
