The Beginning of the greatest gaming series begins with this game. A game which Ubisoft want to be successor of Prince of Persia but it got it's own direction.

Assassin's Creed released in 2007 is the first and the base for all the forthcoming games of the series.

So the story goies like this, an Assassin turned bartender "Desmond Miles" kidnapped by Abstergo Industries, the world's largest pharmaceutical conglomerate, who are also mordern era face of the Templars. Dr. Warren Vidic and his assistant, Lucy Stillman, force Desmond to participate in a series of trials revolving around the "Animus", a machine capable of translating the genetic memories of his ancestors into a simulated reality. Vidic instructs him to relive the early years of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, a senior member of the Assassin Brotherhood during the time of the Third Crusade. Uncovering the life of Altaïr, Desmond as understands the true intentions of Templars, involving Pieces of Eden with ability to control aspects of Human population.
