Red Dead Redemption 2 • GTX 980 • Proton 7.0-1
A Linux gameplay benchmark recorded with a capture card showing the GeForce GTX 980 running Red Dead Redemption 2 on Ubuntu 20.04.3 HWE using Proton 7.0-1. Testing low, medium, high, ultra, and HUB (Hardware Unboxed optimized) settings at 1080p.
Based on this benchmark, the GTX 980 can just about run the game at 30+ FPS with ultra settings (some individual options were set lower to stay below the VRAM limit, and tree tesselation was off), if we ignore the occasional dips below 30. With high settings, the card achieved 30+ FPS in the 1% lows as well. With low settings (+ high texture quality), a relatively stable 60+ FPS was achieved. In this particular benchmark run, there wasn't a big visual difference going from medium to HUB to high to ultra - and even low (with high texture quality) was able to provide nice visuals.
