There's a few things regarding YouTube's obsession with flashy thumbnails that I've never agreed with. First, once upon a time, YouTube had a stern warning that you could get banned if you had deceptive thumbnails that weren't actually part of the video. I've had my thumbnails as part of the video in case YouTube changes their mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

The other thing to consider is the classic effect of "If everyone's special then no one's special." If everyone has flashy neon thumbnails then how does that not lead to people tuning them out because everybody does it? ๐Ÿ™‚

Again, the self-appointed experts in the commentary world and blogosphere can talk a good talk about thumbnails, but if nobody combines flashy with non-flashy thumbnails how can they ever know when people are getting used to flashy thumbnails and starting to tune them out? ๐Ÿ™‚
