I've never been a big fan of stealth games but I do appreciate the highly atmospheric experience which characterize the best entries in the genre. A few years ago I played the original Splinter Cell and the sequel Pandora Tomorrow (strangely enough, I never played Chaos Theory) and I remember them being solid and slick modern espionage games set in believable real world environments. Can't say there was anything especially memorable about the games, though. I should say that I never tried any of the multiplayer ('cause that's usually not my thing), and maybe that's the game mode that helped develop the fan base which is currently raging over the dumbed-down Conviction...
