Remnant 2 vs Steam Deck - Playable Release?
50Join me in today's in-depth analysis as I put the much-anticipated Remnant 2 to the test on the Steam Deck. We'll navigate through different settings, starting with the high preset, with AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) set to performance. Though the graphics might disappoint, with the Steam Deck only managing to average around 24 fps, it's barely playable in its current state.
We'll move on to the medium preset, keeping the FSR in performance mode. The game, currently unverified for the Steam Deck, demonstrates a modest improvement in frames per second, averaging 25 fps. While there are occasional moments of near 30 fps gameplay, expect an average closer to 25 fps during combat sequences.
Shifting to the low preset, we'll encounter the game's first boss and examine the Steam Deck's struggle to maintain a consistent frame rate, with an average of 26 fps across a variety of situations, including combat and navigation.
Next, we'll experiment with the FSR Balanced setting. While we manage to pull an average of 27 fps outside the initial demanding zone, we'll need to dig deeper into settings for a performance upgrade.
We'll also delve into the realm of FSR Performance. This setting, though less visually appealing, might be the key to coaxing out a bit of extra performance and potentially reaching the coveted 30 fps mark. Our test averages around 28 fps with this configuration.
Finally, we'll explore my custom settings, adjusting the resolution to 960x600 and allowing the Steam Deck's FSR implementation to upscale the image. Although the text might appear more blurry, the trade-off could be well worth it for the increase in frame rate.
All in all, while Remnant 2 still has room for improvement regarding performance on the Steam Deck, with custom settings and a little patience, we're able to hit around 30 fps most of the time, providing a visually satisfying and enjoyable gaming experience.
