Resident Evil 0 - Part 12
16Resident Evil 0 is a prequel to the original Resident Evil, and follows S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member Rebecca Chambers - as well as an escaped convict, Billy Coen. The two make an unlikely alliance after Bravo Team is attacked, and have to survive together.
The game is one of the more difficult in the series, as it's quite unforgiving in terms of how much resources you can find. While the gameplay feels very similar to the old style seen in previous Resident Evil games, the base of it is mixed up somewhat by having the player control both characters at once. This works via a mix of AI taking control of one character, the ability to tell them what to do, as well as being able to switch between controlling either character on the fly. Despite all this, the game is strictly singleplayer.
A prequel to Resident Evil was discussed before that game even released in 1996. However, while this prequel was talked about as far back as 1995 - it wasn't until 1998 that Resident Evil 0 would begin development, originally for the Nintendo 64. Capcom designed the game with the limitations of this hardware in mind, but the small storage capacity offered by the Nintendo 64 became problematic - and development slowed down.
During development, the Nintendo GameCube was announced, and it was decided to release the game on that system. While storage capacity was no longer as problematic, the game was largely rebuilt in order to make use of the more powerful hardware. Despite the setbacks and long development time, Capcom eventually published Resident Evil 0 for the GameCube in 2002. Much later, in 2016, the game was remastered and released for systems such as the PS4 and Xbox One. This is the version you'll see played through here.
