The 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake is one of the best survival horror games to ever exist. It can feel a bit short but this is definitely a case of quality over quantity and plus there is even a special "true ending" if you play through the other character's story for your 2nd playthrough.

You will be playing as either Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield, but most likely both at some point since you'll like the game so much and won't want to put it down. Leon is a rookie cop who is going to the Racoon Police Department for his first day, but it's completely overrun by zombies and other monsters. Claire bumps into Leon while searching for her brother Chris Redfield, who was one of the protagonists of the previous game. Regardless of who you choose, your objective will be to secure the G-Virus and stop the infection outbreak caused by Umbrella from getting any worse.

Resident Evil 2 retains all of the elements of the previous game and improves upon the formula further. Therefor it is in fact better than the last game despite how legendary the previous one is. This sequel is far more enjoyable and casual than it's predecessor, and it's really nice to not need to follow someone else's walkthrough so closely just to get an ending like the previous game as it was far too convoluted and difficult to complete by yourself blind. The game features plenty more cutscenes, high quality visuals, and many genuinely great scares and scenes.

I would call the gameplay utterly perfect, and it was especially cool how the zombie's bodies would dynamically change depending on where and how much you shot them. The game features some pretty good boss battles and memorable characters, especially compared to the last one. One person I absolutely loathed however was Mr. X, and he made my Claire Hardcore run particularly annoying as he is seemingly invincible and will never stop chasing you no matter what; forcing you to waste time and ammo on keeping him stunned. Another annoying feature was the pay to win aspect of the DLCs, I know it's a single player game, but it still felt cheap to be given multiple infinite ammo guns at the beginning of the game just because I pretty much accidentally got all the DLCs during sale season, and no, I don't have enough self control to not use them!

Resident Evil 2 is an amazing cinematic survival game start to finish. It has a surprising amount of reply value too despite how limited it may feel at first glance.
