0Resident Evil, the live-action series is soon to be dropped on Netflix. Since its launch in 1996, this franchise has spawned many video games as well as movies for its fans. But this time, Netflix is going all-in with a new original series based on this famous franchise of the same name. Netflix has greenlit not only this live-action series, but two other animated series are also part of this big plan. One of these animated series was released on July 8, 2021, which received a mixed response from the critics. This upcoming show has generated a hype on social media platforms after an official teaser was released on May 12, 2022.
The official synopsis which was shared after the announcement of this project was like this,” The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus. While the project is in early stages, the series is expected to incorporate all of Resident Evil’s signature elements, including action sequences and Easter eggs.” But after watching the trailer, much of the storyline is clear now. From our understanding, the story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realize that their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline takes place over a decade in the future, where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and people being infected with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world. From such a plot, we can expect a top-notch action sequence and a heavy dose of thrill. Andrew Dabb is leading this project while Ella Balinska, Lance Reddick, and Tetiana Gaidar are cast in lead roles. The series is scheduled to be released on July 14th, 2022.
