Chapter 04

The Church
After waking up back in the boat, Leon will head to shore and check in with Hunnigan, but his task remains the same. Luckily, you’re not far off from your next goal, so to speak.
Find the Church Key
Sadly, the boat you used to get back sprung a leak, so instead move on and break the barrels in the boathouse as you move into the next room. You can find a File - Tattered Officer’s Cap in the next room, as well as an item in the cabinet.

Outside, an ominous chanting can be heard nearby, which probably isn’t a good thing. Be sure to check around the left side of the boathouse for a barrel, as well as another up a dead end path on the right.
Certain Villagers, (aka “The Ganado”), will now have their head erupts when shot and sprout scythe-like tentacles. They’ll slowly stagger your way, often stumbling forward as the scythes either sweep around or slice down from above. The good news is that you can parry them with your knife, but they are hard to predict. Another Ganado will soon join the first, and his head will also burst.

It’s best to either keep your distance and take the heads out safely with well placed pistol/rifle shots, or block their sweeps and get in close for 1-2 direct shotgun blasts. Either way, be on your guard at all times for any Ganado to manifest these parasites. Being able to stab enemies on the ground can often stop this from happening, so it’s more important than ever to have your knife repaired when able.
After defeating the two foes, head past a bloody altar and up some stairs to enter the Mural Caves. You can spot one mural on the right as you enter, depicting a beheading as a procession marches onward.
In the next room, a large shrine holds the Church Insignia in place flanked by two stone hands, and the mural behind it depicts people offering two red bloody heads to the effigy. Your task will be to find both of the heads to unlock the insignia.
Luckily, the next room holds a mural that shows you exactly where to start looking - one can be found further in the caves to the west, and another hides in a small cove to the north of the lake.
Leaving the caves, you’ll come to a dock with a few notable items. On the right is a chest with the Old Wayshrine Key, which will finally allow you to open up all the locked wayshrines spotted in previous areas.
There’s also a Request - Egg Hunt, next to the barrel you can break, and a new boat at the dock will let you fully explore all the waterways.

There’s a lot to do now besides the main objectives, but we’ll start with what’s closest.
Large Cave Shrine
Just across the water from the Mural Cave is the first objective, south of the Merchant’s Hideout (where you can save and re-supply if needed). Note that the waters hold lots of barrels you can drive over to get money, and fish near the docks can be harpooned and used as a health source if you ever run low.
The cave system leading to one of the heads has two criss-crossing paths teeming with enemies, and a locked door on the left as you disembark. Be wary as you move southwest from the docks and check the dead end path on the right for some crates.
A few Ganado will start patrolling down the path towards you, and a few of them will likely sprout parasite heads after being damaged, so be ready to backpedal away from them or toss out a Flash Grenade if you have extra.
When you reach the fork in the road, be sure to go left quickly to unlock the door back to the boat, giving you more room to escape. The lower route has less enemies at first, but a dynamite thrower on a high ledge overlooking the path can be a pain to deal with. Even worse, the large group of enemies from the high path will come around behind you to ambush which can make fighting on two fronts difficult.

ove up to the top of the path to take out the dynamite thrower before he can harass you by shooting his dynamite, then double back down to the lower area where another small group of Ganados with molotovs should appear.

You can try leading the group down in the pit below the upper path, and look up for a red lantern you can shoot down to light everyone below on fire. Burn the Ganados to death, and none should sprout any infestations. Be sure to also grab the Yellow Herb down here as well.
When the coast is finally clear, check the locked area with barrels around it to find a stone dais with eight different symbols. You need to find the three correct symbols to open the door, but finding the right ones requires a bit of perspective:
