"Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy," a prequel to the "A Plague Tale" series, is scheduled for release in 2026. The game will explore the backstory of Sophia, a character introduced in "A Plague Tale: Requiem", and will be set 15 years before its events. Players will experience a new story set on the mysterious Minotaur's Island, blending medieval and ancient myth elements. The game will feature Sophia as the protagonist, focusing on her journey to uncover a truth linked to her past while evading an army and dealing with the Macula, a supernatural force in the A Plague Tale universe.
Set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, this upcoming title introduces players to a new protagonist: Sophia, a determined young plunderer already familiar to fans of the series. Her personal journey will take players to a mysterious and deadly location known as the Minotaur’s Island, blending a grounded medieval atmosphere with elements of ancient myth and darker fantasy.
Prequel Story:The game will delve into Sophia's past, revealing how she became the character seen in A Plague Tale: Requiem.
New Setting:Players will explore Minotaur's Island, a location steeped in ancient myth and connected to the Macula, a force central to the series' lore.
Sophia’s story will centre on her efforts to uncover a long-buried truth linked to her past, all while being hunted by an army and contending with a hidden force born from ancient legend. Her journey is shaped by combat-heavy gameplay, environmental puzzles, and the presence of the Macula—an enduring supernatural presence in the A Plague Tale universe, which returns in a newly imagined form. Players can expect to shift between two timelines- the Middle Ages and ancient Minoan civilisation – as the narrative threads of the past and present intertwine.
New Gameplay:Resonance will introduce new action-adventure elements, including combat with parries and puzzle-solving involving light manipulation.
Platform Availability:The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, including a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.
No Prior Experience Needed:While it's a prequel, the developers have stated that players don't need to have played the previous games to enjoy Resonance.
The island itself is set to become a character, filled with deadly traps, intricate paths, and unsettling mysteries. Players will need to rely on agility, parrying, and quick reflexes to outwit both human and non-human threats. Using a stolen Minoan sphere, Sophia can manipulate light to overcome complex puzzles created by mythological figure Daedalus.
