6Welcome to Restless Dreams, an RPG Maker Horror Game that takes place in the same universe as Nightmare of the Snow. Restless Dreams is made in RPG Maker VX Ace developed by Tsurugihayate over on the Project-Ice and Project-Gray tumblr pages.
"Renn Kiriyama is an unsociable, 22 years old upcoming fighter and university student with a dark past. One night, he has a dream where he wakes up in a dark sewer inhabited by grotesque creatures. As he succeeded in escaping the sewer, he meets up with his loved one, Haruka Kurashina. She tells him that the world has ended and he has to save the world, no matter what. And with that, his first nightmare ends."
Completing the rest of Chapter 2 in Restless Dreams (near enough), Renn makes choices in this scenario whether to be optimistic or pessimistic, and take Shiro into consideration or ignore him. Avoiding, killing and watching monsters two legged and eight legged alike. This episode wraps up the Chapter 2 download of the game.
Restless Dreams, out of any rpg horror made in rpg maker has been my most challenging let's play to perform. Three big reasons for why I've had a hard time excluding the darkness in certain places.
1. Playing it on Normal difficulty meant non-important items are tough to find unless you have a survival instinct, meaning where ever new you go, every single object and tile needs to be investigated in order to find all items available. What makes this even more difficult is that Renn doesn't move tile by tile but in very small steps, very good for realism but for interacting in-between two different cabinets for example, you may interact with one that you have already interacted with meaning the other one is left out without you knowing.
2. Puzzle mechanics of the game at times can require a good fifteen minute search top to bottom everywhere you go in the current scenario. This is especially apparent in the train station and the Tsukuyomi fortress where the next place you need to go is the other side of the map, this doesn't make it difficult once you know it but it is a lot of backtracking at times.
3. The monsters within the game are either extremely hypersensitive to your movements, you can sometimes be a good ten tiles away and it will charge towards you. Or you can walk past them with no problem unless it turns around. Another issue are objects that would normally block visibility, especially with the miniature train which you have to walk around, as long as the monster is facing you, it will start charging towards you.
If you didn't like the difficulty of Nightmare of the Snow, Restless Dreams is not any better for the casual player, it is a challenging rpg horror that serves as both a great horror and features an in-depth storyline. Imagine the labyrinth where you collected the Dragon Tablet and avoided all those enemies, and times it by at least 5 that is the intensity of Restless Dreams, although this time around I didn't rage at the game for failing time and time again...xD
Asides some grammar mistakes and certain spots you can walk up when you shouldn't, great job with Restless Dreams so far Tsurughihayate!
