Restoring An Original SNES's Colour (With Surprising Results!) + Bonus PICO Fuse Tip!
My Attempt At Restoring An Original SNES's Colour (With Surprising Results!)
Where does one start when looking at an old console (in this case, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System) and you see that awful browny yellow and wish you couild have it look as you remember it from years gone by?
Well all, look no further than (in the UK) Super drug or Savers or even Amazon! Get yourself as many as you need of the 75ML Jerome Russell Bblondecream peroxide (make sure it is the 40 VOL12% Peroxide one) and liberally spread it over your console shell, wrap in cling film and place in the sunshine. (turning and twisting occasionally.) You can use UV blacklights of which I have but I didnt see much difference to be honest.
Based off of my findings you should do a double dose, so after 48 hours wash, dry then apply again and leave for another 48 hours.
I think you will agree, my results are remarkable, However, it is my understanding that this is purely a temporary solution as after around 18 months, the yellowing comes back.
Please wear latex gloves if you are going to attempt this, and if you do happen to get some on your hands, dont scratch your arse or touch anywhere on yourself (especially your head if you have dark hair!) Safety first people!
Now for the science...
I am not going to explain it to you when i can share you links, so why do these old consoles (and computers such as old MACS/PC's etc) turn yellow? See here...

As for the peroxide (or rather Hydrogen-Peroxide) There are two ways to accomplish the results I have. First is the shop bought peroxide (in the uk its currently £1.29 a bottle) and the econd method is the Retr0Bright method. A link is below for you should you want to look at this method

-------------------------PICO FUSE------------------------------
Unfortunatly (and due to my lack of knowledge, I blew the PICO fuse on mboth of these SNES consoles. How do I know this? Well, a little search on uncle Google helped along with a digital multimeter. I isolated the problem and have some fuses en route now so hopefully I will have these two consoles back in full working order soon and another video to show that. PICO fuse link below...
