Ah, Ridge Racer... WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOU!? You used to be so AWESOME, but Namco dropped the ball and tried to do something different than the established and traditional norm with Unbound. We haven't seen you since. We really miss you!!

Which is sad, because Ridge Racer was THE Series you went to for the absolute best Arcade Racing you can shake a PlayStation Controller at. And in today's case, we're revisiting R4: Ridge Racer Type 4.

While DuckStation makes R4 look stellar even by today's standards, R4 was incredible even on native Hardware. Namco pulled out all of the stops and delivered one of PlayStation's best, all thanks to excellent Art Design, further refined Gameplay and a great, smooth jazz oriented Soundtrack. And who would have thought that a Racing Game could actually have an interesting and engaging Story!?

Yeah, they don't make them like this anymore.

On a personal note, you'll notice me warming up to R4 on my second run with the Dig Dug Team. I played this a whopping amount back in '99 and my Muscle Memory took a moment to warm up again.
