Retro Gaming and the Developer Intent Conundrum

I really wanted to take a look at the conundrum of developer intent with retro games - I've heard so much about it lately and I often have more questions than answers. This video isn't a dig at anyone who wants to play a game in their own way.
Please keep any comments civil! If you want to go along with what the developers intended, that's absolutely fine - if you prefer it a different way, that's also fine!
BTW - Yes, I know the scanlines are misaligned in that last clip from Bebe's Kids :D
