Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere is an arcade flight simulator, developed by Namco and released in Japan in 1999, with western releases following in early 2000.
Despite being the third game in the series, it is far removed from the prior entries in terms of presentation and storytelling. The game makes use of branching paths to provide the player with different ways to experience the story within, with multiple endings to attain.
The presence of the much-maligned western release may have impacted this game's reception overall, and it only marginally outsold the previous entry in Ace Combat 2, but it hasn't prevented people from trying to play the Japanese version of the game to experience the chaos within.
So, how much of a nonsense is the story within Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere? Why do I feel like Johnny Mnemonic navigating the menus? Why am I mute? And — critically for us, especially given the western version of the game — is it worth importing?
