Ace Combat, released in the west as Air Combat, is an arcade combat flilght simulator, developed and published by Namco, and released exclusively for the PlayStation in 1995. You are a mercenary ace pilot, brought in to defend an island nation against an onslaught of attacks.

Selling 2.25 million units internationally through to 2008, it was a very successful game that served as the first console entry in a series with a tremendous following, although compared to where it would go, the first entry had decidedly more humble beginnings.

So, what exactly do you do in Ace Combat? How well did it translate its arcade gameplay sensibilities to the PlayStation? Did Namco really hire people off the street for voice acting roles? And, crucially for us, is it worth importing?
