Super Metroid released in 1994 for the Super Famicom, and was developed by Nintendo R&D 1 and Intelligent Systems. It's a 2D action adventure game where you explore a labyrinthine world filled with various biomes and exotic locations.
Playing as the bounty hunter Samus Aran, you find yourself pursuing a Metroid in its young form, having been ravaged away from its captivity aboard a research station. It's down to you to find out where it has gone and what has become of it.
Despite high praise for the game upon release, it didn't shift quite as many units as other Nintendo properties of the era. Since then, however, the game has received a lot of recognition for its role in forging an entire community of players trying to beat the game as quickly as possible, as well as inspiring a new kind of action adventure game.
So, all in all, did it deserve to sell better than it really did? Did its mix of side-scrolling action and maze-like exploration actually gel well? And - most crucially for us - is it worth importing?
