Released for the Nintendo Famicom in 1984, the NES in 1985, and the Famicom Disk System in 1986, GOLF is the best selling sports game in the 8-bit Nintendo library.
Developed by Nintendo’s legendary R&D1, Shigeru Miyamoto has been quoted as saying he was "directly in charge of the character and game design", while programming was handled by future Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata. Featuring the first ever use of power and accuracy meters for swinging the club, the game is still influencing golf games released almost 40 years later.
Ported to numerous systems after its release, including the NEC PC-88 and Sharp X1 home computers, the 3 Nintendo versions would go on to sell a combined total of over 4 million copies.
Fans itching to hit Nintendo’s classic links can play 9 holes from GOLF in Wii Sports, as well as all three of the Wii Sports Resorts’ Classic Courses.
