Make sure to use the Mame 2003-Plus core in RetroArch to get Killer Instinct to work. the .chd extension file and the folder it'll be in must have the same name as the rom itself to get running.

The ROM/.chd files must also be from the Mame 2003 plus romset.

I don't know the link to ROM/.chd file extensions so use the search engine best way possible at your risk. ;)
