Digging through my bookcases for RPG stuff, I found this, my very first computer programming book that taught me how to program in Basic, and thought people might be interested.
Write you own Adventure Programs for your Microcomputer, published in 1983 is a short book, with about a third being taken up with a single program listing, but it takes you through the basics of planning you project, breaking it down for the machine, and writing your first program.
