Greetings, friends! I want to tell you about the game I know This Place? from the developers of SameFrame, RBL LABS.
This is a game of experimental mystical adventure, with the vibe of the eighties and nineties of the last century of the USSR. After completing the first chapter, the player can influence the further plot of the game.
Each player understands the events in the game differently. The players themselves can influence the plot of future chapters. After completing the chapter, they can leave their vision of the future, answer the questions, What did he understand in this chapter, and what, in his opinion, will happen next. The developers collect data from players and based on that they build the next chapter. Even the developers themselves don't know what the next chapter will be. They only know the basic plot. Therefore, they hope that this Experimental game will be an interesting experience for all players. Everyone will leave a piece of their thoughts in the game.
In addition to the chapters, the Universe of I Know This Place will be revealed in short films, which can also be seen on the Steam page or on the developers’ YouTube channel.
I played this game on PC using keyboard and mouse.
The controls are convenient and intuitive. The physics in the game is realistic. Colors, shadows - everything is as it should be. Lighting creates a special vibe. Particularly delightful is the pleasant musical accompaniment and ambient music.
It’s a pity that you can’t take items into your inventory, and that there is no animation for using items like in Resident evil. It would be cool. It would also be more convenient to exit pause mode using the escape key. I would also like to open the closet, get into the bathroom and pull back the curtain on the window.
You can't run in the game. This is a quiet game to think about what is happening here. I liked how the developers came up with unusual uses for some items.
This raises more questions than answers. Key-candy called "Golden Key", glowing water that runs on electricity. A lantern that lights up from this water. This is a really cool thing, as is the huge can of stew in the window.
Plot of I know This Place
An old friend named Volodya writes a letter to the main character and asks him to come to his apartment to see him. But when the hero arrives at this apartment, he discovers that there is no one inside.
This is where the story begins.
In the one-room Khrushchevka there are a lot of photographs, packs of cigarettes and coins. Apparently Volodya is a big fan of smoking. All these items are from different time periods. The game uses real photographs of different people helping the project. Coins, cigarette packs and all interior items are also taken from the real world.
I worked as a realtor, and due to my profession, I had to visit such apartments. I've even seen apartments that are still in the same condition as in the game.
I think Volodya is not a young man. Old people usually do not make repairs to their apartment for decades until their death.
I've seen many objects many times in my life. Happy New Year card. My grandfather had a collection of similar postcards from the USSR. Coins. It looks like Volodya has been collecting all this rubbish all his life. How old is he? Or maybe he inherited this apartment from his grandfather? Although no. After all, the main character, looking at very old photographs, says something about Volodya. But which one of them is in the photos, Volodya? By the way, the hero says that Volodya Mashkov always resembled the hero of some movie. It's funny, because there is such an actor - Vladimir Mashkov.
Candies "Golden Key". I love these toffees. A very interesting hatch in the ceiling through which you can hear your neighbors. They follow our hero and listen to what he does. They are clearly hiding something. And they know that they need to feed the brownie. I've definitely seen someone like this watch before somewhere. I wonder why it is upside down and why the neighbors react if it is put in their place.
I liked the reference to the movie "Back to the Future" in the form of a flyer calling for saving the city clock tower. Folder with the SCP logo. Why is there so many identical alarm clocks under the bed? And what is this creature in the ventilation? Did it bite the soap? There is a lot to puzzle over in the game. As the developers say: “Don’t look for answers, look for questions.”
