This is one of the endless mini-games you can get with 27 medals in the DS opus.
How it plays: you must follow a linear path to get to the stairs for the next level. In order to do so, your move is determined based on WHEN you tap on the screen.
The wikia consider it as 4 beats, or 4 quarter notes. I rather consider it to be a 2 beat rhythm with 2 eighth off-beats.
Beat 1 is the kick, moves up.
Beat 2 is the snare, moves right.
Just after the kick (an eighth note after), between beat 1 and 2, it does a hit-hat sound, moves down.
Just after the snare (same, an eighth note after), between beat 2 and 1, it does a tom sound, moves left.
When you don't do anything, the game shows and tells you with sounds exactly what is the rhythm you must reproduce to come along the way.
From the level 10, the game introduces shuffle rhythm, it has a random chance to affect the level you're in.
It subdivides each beat into 3 equals eighth notes, or sub-beats so to speak. Kick and snare doesn't change, but the hi-hat and tom placement does change a bit. Instead of being placed right between two beats, on an eighth notes, they're placed on the third "sub-beat", or triplets eighth note of their corresponding beat. See on youtube how a shuffle (or swing) rhythm sounds.
I've achieved 2 full loops, some mistakes I've could have avoided but it's the third time I record that for some reasons, so screw it. The third loop is really fast and extremly difficult. Could be done with some tool (like with TAS), to see if it just repeats the same tempo after the third loop (like in some other endless mini-games). Tho I believe it's humanly doable with a lot of training and concentration.
