Right to Education- Remarkable progress in elementary education
Considerable progress has been made by the states and UTs with regard to meeting the standards given in the schedule of the RTE Act. Most eligible habitations in the country are being provided with neighborhood schools, residential schools and transportation facilities to provide access to elementary education. RTE Act incorporates the words 'Free and Compulsory Education', which implies that the onus is on the Government to provide and ensure free and elementary education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years. It casts a legal obligation on both the central and State Governments to implement this fundamental child right as enshrined in the Article 21'A' of the Constitution of India in accordance with the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009.
