Ringed Armguards is the fist version of the Monk CCW.
It's not as shiny as the staff, but it has a role and it works quite well as a weapon. It provides:
1) 30% damage absorption for 2.5 turns to MC
2) Raises the number of stacks per ougi/skill damage by 1 stack more. (which allows you to reach max stacks pretty much at turn 1).
Reduces the penalty for being at low health to 2 stacks.
3) Inflict 7% def/atk down every turn that trigger mantra.

As you can see it's a much more defensive type of weapon and I think it can have a role in harder content. I quite like the ability to raise stacks extremely quickly in battle and the ability to forego def down skills...
