This is the ending to the English dub of Chirin no Suzu remixed with Adagio for Strings from the original soundtrack of The Elephant Man, with wind sound effects from Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek providing the ambience. As a matter of fact, it is edited to resemble the ending of The Elephant Man.

The mother's recital of the Tennyson poem "Nothing Will Die" further adds to the ambiguous nature of Chirin's ultimate fate and perhaps even giving him a more satisfying conclusion in which he is reunited by his mother in the afterlife.

No matter what Takashi Yanase said, I think Chirin deserves this type of ending, don't you?
