New episode. New review. Last week was Don’s episode. This week is on Mikey.
The plot has Mikey and Todd spying on Meat Sweats. But when they spot him using a magic truffle, it forces the two to get their hands on it. What follows is a chase and after absorbing Todd, Meat Sweats becomes nice to the point where they become BFFs. It’s weird… what can possibly go wrong? A lot.
It’s a Mikey-centric episode where it can get really strange. But in truth, the plot shares similarities to a 2012 TMNT episode: New Friend, Old Enemy. It’s where Mikey meets an idol of his and he turns out to be a good guy only to find out that they work for the bad guys in the end. With the 2012 episode, Chris Bradford would work for the Shredder only for him to be mutated into Dogpound and then again into Rahzar. In the 2018 series, Meat Sweats was only a bad guy temporarily due to absorbing Todd’s mutant DNA.
There were two highlights: the BFF scene as weird as it is and Todd and Mikey taking down Meat Sweats and the fused Meat Weretree. Yes. We get a debut in the form of the Weretree, voiced by Nolan North. The ending is a bit humorous though.
There is some good pacing and the humor is there. Surprisingly none of the other Turtles appear in the episode, except for Raph in a thought sequence. It’s pretty nice since it does give characters a time to shine like Todd. It’s nice.
