Let’s ask ourselves this question. What happened to Dante that put him in this predicament? Well let’s find out.

It’s here we get to the good stuff. We get to finally play as Dante, the one that has symbolized Devil May Cry for many years. Similar to DMC4, Dante has access to four different styles that he can use at anytime with a single press on the D-Pad. They change how he plays so skilled players need to take advantage of all his different styles if you want to achieve the highest rank possible.

Pressing Up gives you access to Trickster, a style that specializes in rapid movement. Dante gets access to a dash that lets him move quickly. The dash can also be used in mid-air and can close in on enemies.

Left gives Dante Gunslinger. Gunslinger is the opposite of Swordmaster, specializing in Dante’s many firearms that he acquires on his journey. They allow him to fire faster and in some cases do some crazy stuff. Compared to Devil May Cry 4, this is balanced.

Right is Swordmaster. Being the opposite of Gunslinger, this one centers on Dante’s many Devil Arms that he acquire in the game. It also allows Dante to be really flexible especially in the air. Depending on the weapon used, they can deal a lot of damage to enemies.

Down is Royalguard (and a favorite of mine). It’s one of the more difficult styles to learn and one of the strongest styles. It basically means you need to absorb damage and dish it back. In some cases, you can nullify an enemy attack and counter. Pretty interesting.

But yeah, we see Dante, Trish and Lady head in to stop Urizen and it doesn’t go as well as you expect. It actually goes really bad. Not good. I will mention that Dante starts with two Devil Arms: Rebellion and the Balrog. Balrog takes the form of a pair of gauntlets, grieves and shoulder pads. They allow Dante access to a serious of punch and kick attacks. Plus in Swordmaster they add more attacks. As for his Firearms, he has Ebony & Ivory and a shotgun.

Dante will get more weapons as he progresses. Back to the present, Dante must now go on the move. In Part 13, we take on Mission 11.
