80Hello, we’re back with another Play or Pass, where we give you our thoughts on some of the newest and best co-op and multiplayer games.
Today we’re covering Risk of Rain 2, a coop, Rogue-Like, third person shooter developed by a small team at Hopoo Games that was released as early access in 2019.
When you jump into Risk of Rain 2 you begin each play through in the shoes of an unfortunate survivor, stranded on a strange, hostile, alien planet. You have almost no equipment, and limited tools at your disposal.
As you fight for your life you’ll have to navigate ten open, explorable and hostile environments, each one teeming with difficult boss fights, and waves of aliens hell bent on ending your life.
The addictive hooks of Risk of Rain quickly set in through a combination of your character's power progression and the increasing difficulty of enemies over time.
To help you along the way, each map has a number of chests to loot that provide a number of different offensive and defensive buffs, and when used in different combinations can lead to some pretty interesting play styles,
For example, one double jump buff and you can enjoy a little more mobility, but 5 double jump buffs and you’re now enjoying more time in the air than on the ground. The more you grab, the more powerful you little survivor becomes.
On the 11th August Risk of Rain 2 had it’s full release, so we jumped on to find out whether this fast paced Rogue-Like is a play or a pass.
