So, Risk of Rain is a pretty cool indie platformer arcade-ish game.
Monsoon is basically hard mode for the game. No artifacts used.

The gimmick and defining mechanic is that the game becomes more difficult the longer you play. In other words, clearing stages fast is crucial for success, especially in the rapidly increasing intensity of the Monsoon mode. However, you need to get items to stand any chance at the later stages, and walking to collect them costs precious time...

Commando is the game's "all-around" guy and the character you start Risk of Rain with. His attacks have low damage and low utility, but they are easy to use: just fire away from any range. Commando also has an important tool: his dodge skill is one of the best and easiest to use evasion moves in the whole game.

With Commando, the trick is to overcome his weak DPS by being cheap and chipping at enemies from beyond screen range. The timer is going to max out early with him anyway, so chipping out bosses and taking your time to collect items is not a huge problem. If you happen to get regen items like Leech Seed, it's very easy to play an aggressive runaway style as well - I demonstrate that during the last 20 minutes of gameplay.

The drone distribution in this playthrough was pretty lucky; after a decent start I got the important Arms Race item which boosts all drones massively. After that I basically let drones do the heavy lifting while I was able to concentrate 99% on staying alive. The cost of this was that I had no good use item during the whole run. There were a few (very) tight spots, but overall I'm quite happy with my level of play.

As Commando, the final boss is a bit on the tough side, so you will want to farm the last level a bit; I maybe went overboard, but wanted to ensure a smooth victory. The final battle still was kind of close at times, so I don't think it's time wasted.
