It is written in C and originally used the Allegro library. The latest versions of the engine use the SDL library.

La versión actual utiliza la biblioteca «SDL».

El nombre del motor deriva de la palabra japonesa Mugen (無限 mugen?, infinito), debido a las infinitas o ilimitadas posibilidades que ofrece el mismo.
