Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has strongly condemned what he described as “anti-Russian madness” following airspace bans by Estonia and Lithuania that affected leaders traveling to Moscow for the May 9 Victory Day celebrations. Speaking in Piest’any on Thursday, Fico expressed disbelief over the travel restrictions, stating that this marks a significant escalation from previous years.

The airspace bans, which also impacted Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s travel plans, have sparked significant controversy. Fico, who was criticized in 2015 for attending Moscow’s Victory Day parade, pointed out that leaders in the past faced no such restrictions.

While Lithuania cited security concerns for denying airspace access, Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna made it clear that using the country's airspace to attend Moscow's May 9 events was "out of the question." These developments come after EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas issued a stern warning to European leaders considering attendance at Russia's military celebrations.

Despite calls from Ukraine and Western allies to cancel their visits, around 30 leaders from across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, have confirmed their attendance for Moscow's iconic Victory Parade on May 9, which will feature military troops from 13 countries, including Vietnam, Mongolia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan.
