Welcome to this Chrono Trigger German / English Lets Play! Chrono Trigger isn’t just one of the best SNES games of all time, it’s also a great opportunity to learn German with RPGs. The game has fantastic retro graphics, amazing music, wonderful characters, and so much more. And thanks to the Chrono Trigger German translation, it’s also a great way to learn new vocab and grammatical forms, work on your German pronunciation, and practice German reading.
Learning a language can take hard work, but it’s important to have fun with it as well, and when you practice German with video games, this is one
great way to do that. Let’s learn German with RPGs together!

Information about Chrono Trigger:
Chrono Trigger regularly tops lists of the best RPGs and SNES games of all time. Published in 1995 by Square, Chrono Trigger was developed by a dream team that included such talents as Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (the creator of Dragon Quest), Akira Toriyama (the author of Dragon Ball), Yasunori Mitusda (a then-unknown but amazingly talented young composer), and Nobuo Uematsu (the composer for Final Fantasy).
The game has been described as taking the JRPG formula and both simplifying and perfecting it down into its most essential and powerful form. It has remained a critical success and spawned the sequel works Radical Dreamers and Chrono Cross. Both of these are available on modern systems in the “Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.” Chrono Trigger is one of my personal favorite games of all time, and I’m excited to play it with you!
Chrono Trigger German Translation:
You can’t practice German reading without a German text, and you can’t learn German with RPGs if an RPG isn’t in German! During its original SNES release, Chrono Trigger was not translated into German. However, a dedicated fan who goes by the name of ManuLöwe created an absolutely wonderful Chrono Trigger German translation, and it is this version that we will be playing. One of the best ways that retro games like this can help you is by allowing you to practice German reading in a fun and relaxed context. Try reading the text along with me, out loud if possible, as this will give you the chance to practice speaking aloud and improve your pronunciation. While I provide an English translation for beginning learners, try to form your own understanding as well. And if you don’t understand something, feel free to watch the video over again—or drop me a question in the comments! The more time you spend with German, the better!
