ROBOT JOX - GIANT ROBOT FIGHT BEFORE CGI
1,935In 1987, the director of Re-Animator and From Beyond (two cult classics in horror cinema) drew inspiration from the Transformers toy line to create *Robot Jox*. To him, it was (quoting the director): "A 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 that kids could enjoy." However, he hired a screenwriter who wrote (quoting the director again): "A 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 that adults could enjoy."
Three years later, after millions of dollars had been invested and the production company was left bankrupt, Robot Jox finally premiered… and bombed at the box office.
But how could a futuristic movie where wars between countries are resolved through giant mech battles fail?
